Sharing toilets – a new way for staff and students to mingle
When I was in primary school, there was a very talkative young fella who used to love to have a chat about all the innocuous things going on in his life. I never had a problem with him, and in fact, some of his stories were mildly amusing, but the main issue I had was that this boy loved to tell long winded stories while we were both at the urinal. Now maybe I’m being just a little prudish here, but I don’t see the urinal as a place that’s great for conversation. It’s like going to the chemist to buy condoms – you just wanna get in there, get your business done, and then get out of there as quickly as possible. It’s totally utilitarian – it needs to be done, you’re not overly proud of it, but it’s a fact of life.
Anyway, I digress. Some brainiacs in a State Government in Malaysia have come up with a brilliant new plan to get students and teachers to mingle. Let’s make them share toilets!
“When students share the toilets with the teacher, they (students) will believe that they are on par with academicians and this automatically invokes a sense of being important to an organisation, which, in this case, is the school,” he said here yesterday.
The above quote, from the man with the longest job title in the world, State Education, Higher Learning, Human Resource, Science and Technology Committee chairman Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman (imagine carrying around his business card – it must be the length of a roll of toilet paper), highlights my worst fears. The toilet is now becoming an active place for integration, socialisation and team bonding. God help us! Thanks to the Star for the info.
